Who is Johnnie Mazzocco?

By day, I am a seemingly demure college writing and digital arts professor. But, beneath this façade lives a healer. A cosmic lightning rod (a name given to me by my friend, Ty).

Being a person who is wired to other frequencies, I have spent much of my life feeling like a stranger in a strange land. It became my desire several years ago to create a forum for others who share the same affliction.

I align my self with Lilith, Kali, Vesta, and The Great Bliss Queen. My spiritual beliefs and practices revolve around notions of earthly love and cosmic awareness, and if pressed to label them, I'd say Buddhist-infused Paganism. After many years of hiding, explaining, and justifying my gift to those who do not understand or believe, I fully accept my mission in this life as a healer. My methods for healing manifest in a variety of ways whether it be through one of my creative projects that touches people down to their marrow or by creating space for others to speak their truth.

With regard to this journal, I loosely assume the title of Editor. That is, I don’t really “edit” anyone’s work. I simply read and decide whether or not it is appropriate for DML, so this means that if your work is submitted in the proper format and is relatively free of grammar and punctuation errors, and I like your piece, you stand a good chance of seeing it in the pages of DML.

I am passionate about dialogue and communication regarding issues about which the mainstream is unaware and which run counter to the status quo. I believe we are on the brink of great change in the world, and I believe it is my calling in this life to shed light on that which has been hidden.

A psychic once told me that in a past life, I ran a boarding house for physically, emotionally, and spiritually wounded soldiers who came from various parts of the world. Not only did I offer them shelter and nourishment in a variety of forms, I also created a communal language so that we could all disclose, discover, enlighten and be enlightened.

Not much has changed. In this life, I have found myself serving as a safe haven for many a traumatized man, and I can’t think of many other things that bring me the satisfaction and joy I gain from feeding and nurturing the people I love and engaging in meaningful dialogue about issues that affect us all on a human level.

And, so, I believe that in this life, DML is the “boarding house.” My hope is that it will be a nurturing place for disclosure, meaningful dialogue, and enlightenment, where we can create a common language and instigate meaningful change in the world.

In the pages of this online journal, you’ll find a variety of topics and ideas. Because my spirit experiences ennui with routine, each issue will likely be different. Some may be themed. Some may not. Some may be heavy on imagery, others on text.

And, to add to the conversation, I’ll post my own thoughts and musings on the blog when the spirit moves me and when I run across something that I want to share.

I hope you’ll return to these pages often and share with me my mission in this life.
